Juanita Tsosie is one of the most famous Navajo Lifestyle and Folk Art Pictorial weavers.
Her weavings tell and story in a Folk Art Fashion no other weaver can replicate.
This Rodeo Pictorial has all the events of the Rodeo; Horse Races, Calf Roping, Team Roping, Bull Dogging, Bull Riding, Bronco Busting, calves waiting for the shoot, spectators watching, and more.
The Horse Race at the top is a Chicken Pull (which is a popular sport among Navajo Cowboys). It is a Horse Race to see who can first lean over and pick up the chicken out of the ground and then the race is on to see if someone else can take if from you.
I have been working with Juanita for about 30 years. She is getting on in her years and is weaving smaller pieces now and very few. She has larger weavings hanging in the Boulders Resort in Cave Creek Arizona and at West Court in the Buttes, which are 5' x 8' in dimensions.
